ST PETER'S C OF E PRIMARY SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL

Collective Worship

Collective worship is central to each school day and is at the heart of our shared life. It provides an opportunity to worship God, enjoy being together, and strengthen our bond as a Church School community.

Our worship is:

Inclusive – Welcoming all, respecting different backgrounds, and encouraging meaningful participation.

Invitational – Gently inviting everyone to reflect, respond, and engage with the Christian message and values.

Inspiring – Encouraging us to explore our spirituality, reflect on moral values, and be inspired to live out faith daily.

We celebrate this special time through activities such as:

v  Singing and rejoicing together

v  Smaller class-led worship with teachers or year groups

v  Watching our Open the Bible Team bring Bible stories to life and learning The Lord’s Prayer

v  Inviting members of the local and wider church community (e.g., the Bishop of Colchester), faith groups, and charities like The Salvation Army

v  Pupil-led worship

Our worship follows four key parts:

Gathering – Coming together through prayer, singing, or reflection

Engaging – Listening to Bible stories, reflections, or messages about Christian beliefs and values

Responding – Responding through prayer, reflection, or action, making learning personal

Sending – Concluding with a blessing or challenge, sending everyone out with a message of hope, love, or service

Our themes are inspired by our Christian Vision, based on James 2:18 (I will show you my faith by my actions), and our school values (Aspire, Care, Empower). We follow the Christian Liturgical Calendar and make links to other major world faiths and awareness days.

Our current theme is ‘Our Wonderful World’ but this changes each term.

Worship is carefully planned by the Collective Worship Lead to support staff in delivering high-quality, engaging, and meaningful experiences. It includes moments of stillness, connection, and reflection, supporting opportunities for faith development.

It is monitored regularly through observation and discussion with the Diocesan advisors, the Governing body, HT and DHT and other relevant parties such as members of the Church community, ensuring it remains relevant and impactful.
